A simple yet meaningful gesture is to bring a gift for your host family. It doesn’t have to be expensive; it can simply represent your culture, Spain, or your hometown, such as a book, music, or even some typical food.
Some of our students tell us that when they arrive in Ireland and live with a host family, it can be a bit challenging to understand everything and communicate fluently. This is entirely normal since you are there to improve your English. The key is to maintain a positive and open attitude, which will enhance coexistence and your self-confidence. Language fluency will come naturally.
Don’t feel embarrassed about sharing your interests, hobbies, personality, or favorite dishes. Your host family doesn’t know you yet, and sharing these details will help them connect with you more quickly. The families that are part of Ireland Experience are welcoming and hospitable, and their primary desire is for you to feel at home.
For this experience to be truly enriching, it’s important to reciprocate with some acts of courtesy: participate in family meals, respect schedules, and embrace and celebrate the differences you’ll discover, as they are precisely what will make your experience more enriching.
